WINDS OF CHANGE

Reading fantasy in the heat of summer.
I love reading fantasy any time of the year. But, I love curling up on a big chair and savoring a fantasy in the heat of summer right next to the airconditioner vent. Or reading outside in the cool of the evening on a lawn chair. I love gardening, however, when the heat index is in the 90's I quickly decide that watering is fine but other work like adding mulch or trimming can wait until fall. So I look at my flowers, and read fantasy.
"Winds of Change" (Mage Winds Series #2) is by Mercedes Lackey. In The Mage Winds trilogy, which began with the best-selling novel,Winds of Fate, author Mercedes Lackey continues the epic that started with her first published book, Arrows of the Queen introduced readers to the remarkable land of Valdemar, the kingdom protected by its Heralds--men and women gifted with extraordinary mind powers--aided and served by their mysterious Companions--horselike beings who know the many secrets of Valdemar's magical heritage. None but the Companions remember the long-ago age when high magic was lost to Valdemar as the last Herald-Mage gave his life to protect his kingdom from destruction by dark sorceries.

But now the protective barrier set so long ago over Valdemar is crumbling, and with the realm imperiled by the dark magic of Ancar of Hardorn, Princess Elspeth, Herald and heir to the throne, has gone on a desperate quest in search of a mentor who can teach her to wield her fledgling mage-powers and help her to defend her threatened kingdom.
Pick up this great trilogy. Start with the first book:
"Winds of Fate" or the beginning trilogy, "Arrows of the Queen." I love this series and Lackey has many trilogies and individual books that are part of this world. Since the series includes evil mages and evil rulers of other lands, the series does have wars and people dying or being hurt in extreme ways. I hope you will try this trilogy and see if you like it. If you read Lackey or read her because of this blog: Please add your comments.

Thanks for your reading suggestion. You had actually recommended Mercedes Lackey earlier in an entry and I checked her out then. I really enjoyed both series.
