One of the great things about being a parent is getting to read with your kids. Reading can be delicious and it's good for your child ... and for you! Why for you, too? Well, you have an excuse to read your childhood favorites; you get to learn about all the great new books that have been written since you were little; and sometimes you are just too tired to read anything but kids' books!
Here are some suggestions to make reading time a fun time for you and your children:
Establish the reading habit and remember that books can be read anytime/anywhere.
Keep reading to your children even when they can read on their own.
Talk about what you are reading together.
Enjoy books in a variety of formats like on DVDs, starting when children are two.

Skip the words (sometimes).
Wear a costume or a hat.
Let your child finish the words at the end of each sentence.
Encourage your child to pick out books in the bookstore.
Have your child be part of the story.
Find a favorite book on audio.
Allow your child to dictate the pace of reading.
Sing the story!
Read in the bathtub! (But not a library book!)
Act out parts of the book with your child and take turns being different characters.

And if you can't read Good Night Moon one more time on some evenings, try these five alternatives:
1. Make up a story about your childs favorite toy.
2. Tell your child a story from your childhood.
3. Have your child tell you a story.
4. Make up a story and have your child add details or characters as you go.
5. Read the story with a French, English, or Russian accent. Even Goodnight Moon takes on a fun new twist.
