StoryCorps, an oral history project based in New York, has sent a mobile story booth to Utah State University in Logan. Its mission is to record the stories of ordinary people across the United States. You can be part of this project by calling 1-800-850-4406 to set up an appointment between now and August 25th. You can record an interview between you and a friend, relative, or acquaintance. All participants are given the 40 minute interview cd ($10 donation requested). If permission is given, a copy will be stored at the U.S. Library of Congress adding to a large national oral history repository. Participants can be from ages 10 and up.
In addition, excerpts from some of the histories nationwide are played Fridays on National Public Radio's "Morning Edition".
Imagine how great it would be to have a copy of an interview with a grandparent or loved one about their life and memories that you could keep forever. Our library now has over 300 local oral histories including World War II veterans, Daughter's of the Pioneer's, and people of local historical interest on file. You can search these on our card catalog and they are available to read at the library.
