StoryCorps - Listen to the Stories that Have Made America

Do you ever listen to NPR? If so, chances are you've heard of StoryCorps. It's a very neat way to experience the everyday history of America. This website can connect you to over 10,000 oral history interviews from across America. Their archive is housed at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.

StoryCorps has a trailer that they drive across the country to various locations to collect these interviews. In fact, they are just a short drive from us right now. Utah Public Radio is hosting Story Corps this month in Logan. The trailer has been in Logan since 2 August 2007 and will stay through the 25th. The StoryCorps Mobile Booth is located near the Logan Tabernacle on 100 North. If you or someone you know are interested in being interviewed check the Utah Public Radio website to find information about any open appointments. If you don't make the booth while it is in Logan, you can find out how to do one yourself so that you can submit to their collection.

If you'd rather just listen, you can also simply browse the interviews that are currently in their collection. These can be browsed by Category, searched by subject or keyword, or you can sign-up to receive podcasts. Here's one I just listened to about the family of Marie DeSantis of New York, NY. She tells about one Christmas during World War II. Visit their website and enjoy listening to some of the individual histories of America!
