Sometimes, the library is a pretty scary place even when it isn't Halloween. The building has a lot of creaks and groans that can really get your imagination going once it starts to get dark - especially if you happen to be in the building by yourself. If you got stuck in the building for the night, at least you'd have some good reading material and maybe you could find a yogurt in the staff fridge that wasn't too old so you wouldn't starve. We don't get many people in to visit us on Halloween night, I guess they are all home eating their candy or out in pursuit of it. Our staff dressed up today, some in very neat costumes. Elizabeth and Kimber are penguins, Michele has socks all over her - is she a dryer or static cling? Joyce is a witch with great socks. Connie always comes up with a great outfit - she's either the queen of the witches or a vampire lady. I'd be careful of her. I've come as myself on my day off - mostly frumpy and not very scary.
Children who need some last minute spooky reading, try this website for some suggestions:
The Monster Librarian Presents Scary Book Lists for kids http://www.monsterlibrarian.com/horrorfictionlistkd.htm. If you want a history of Halloween try the History Channel site at http://www.history.com/minisites/halloween/, and for a great site for anything Halloween try http://www.halloween.com/ They even have suggestions for last minute Halloween costumes such as: Carry a quarter and a hammer. What are you? A Quarter-pounder or Carry around some paper. If someone asks you what you are, tear one up. What are you? A paper shredder.
Happy Birthday to our page, Sarah, who is having a birthday today! What a great day for a birthday!
Susan
