Some great plays are on right now at the Utah Shakespearian Festival. My favorite performances were given in Art and The Tempest. The Mousetrap was also done. All three are very, very good plays.
Art is about a man who buys a white painting for 200,000 Francs and his two long-time friends. The friends argue about their opinions of art and about their friendship. It's full of laughs, yet has its serious moments as well. Visit Bard.org to see a video clip of Art.
The Mousetrap needs little introduction. It is, of course, the well-known Agatha Christie mystery that has been playing in London for decades. A group of strangers meet at an inn only to discover that one among them is a killer. The trick is finding out who before it is too late. Visit Bard.org to see a video clip of The Mousetrap.
And then comes Shakespeare. In the fall the Festival only does one Shakespeare performance and this year it was The Tempest. It was full of interesting sets and beautiful costuming. My favorite characters in this performance were Ariel and Trinculo (I absolutely loved his hair!). This tale was filled with storylines involving romance, trickery, deceit, and humor. And there's the part of the world most of the characters are not aware of and cannot see around them - the world where magic is possible, spirits roam, and where ancient goddesses exist. If your a fan of A Midsummer Nights Dream, you'll like The Tempest too. Visit Bard.org to see a video clip of The Tempest.
We have both The Tempest and The Mousetrap at the library. If you can't make it to a performance this fall, that's no reason to miss out all together. Just come in and see what plays we've got. Not only do we have a lot of plays in book form, but we have some stage productions on DVD. Find a play that's right for you and check it out!
