Merriam-Webster Online's Word of 2007

Last year's Word of the Year on Merriam-Webster Online was w00t. Since 2003 Merriam-Webster Online has had voting for the Word of the Year. The word w00t is not in their dictionary as yet, but since it has won this contest it may be on it's way. If it seems an unusual word to you, don't think you're alone. W00t and other similar words are part of l33t speak, which is a computer hacker language that is now used in a lot of online gaming. L33t speak uses various symbols (letters, numbers, and other symbols) to form words. W00t uses two zeros instead of the letter 'o'. To learn the meaning of w00t and see the top ten words for 2007 visit Merriam-Webster Online.

Past winners have included truthiness (2006), integrity (2005), blog (2004), and democracy (2003). I didn't realize they did this until I logged on the other day and I think it's really fun.
