Need a little humor?

Getting a little tired of snow? Need a little lighter look at life? Take a look at a new book the library just purchased "Our dumb world". Just reading the cover of the book can give you a smile. It says this is the book now includes "30% more Asia" and that a free globe is inside (get it? free globe? globes are round - would never fit in a book). The cover also indicates that it has new and improved features such as "fewer clouds on maps", "curvier latitude lines" better-veiled xenophobia" (whatever that is), and "long-standing border disputes resolved".

Inside the instructions for how to use this atlas include instructions by country. Japan - upload contents to brain's memory-chip implant. France - this atlas is clearly beneath you, do not waste your precious time on it. Botswana - why did you spend your money on an atlas!

Let's take a look at what it says about Egypt - History: currently on loan to the British Museum.
2528 B.C. : With only six months left to completion of his magnificent pyramid, Khufu infuriates 400,000 slaves when he decides to be cremated instead. Facts: Leading cause of death: Lagging behind tour group. Natural hazards: Earthquakes, flash floods, opening up that sarcophagus. Religion: Some still worship the sun god Ra, who answers their prayers pretty much the same time each morning.

And so on...
