Brigham City Library Part 3

This was meant to be the final installment of a short history of the Brigham City Library, but I got sidetracked. I thought there was quite a bit of readily accessible information regarding the addition , but I was wrong. In the histories I've been reading through, there is one paragraph "Karen Ann Howard, appointed head librarian January 1, 1976, updated the library's book collection, and acquired such equipment as a photocopier and filmstrip projector. She also obtained a federal grant of $454,073 for expansion and remodeling of the library building. Construction on the project began November 12, 1977 and was completed and the facility dedicated November 11, 1978.

I decided to read the oral history of Vernie McComb because she worked at the library during the construction and I thought there might be more facts there - that's when I got sidetracked. Her oral history is a delight to read and I wonder if I can reproduce parts of it here in another blog. I'll have to check. Of course, it means more to me because I worked with Vernie and her library stories are some I share. I think the general public would get a kick out of reading it also, and all the things the public and the library staff went through trying to keep the library going through the construction. Anyone can come in and ask to read that - just ask for the oral history of Vernie McComb #MS 220.

Next, I went to the basement to go through the numerous files we have there, but they are a mess. Duplicates of the same stories over and over, the same pictures in several different files. That means a chore for a closed Friday when I can collect the files and bring them upstairs to sift through and put in some type of organization. I saw pictures of people who worked here that I didn't even remember from my time as a patron and of working here. I saw pictures of how the shelves were situated and how much they've been moved around. I have always wondered where the stairs to the basement were before the remodel, and I found a drawing showing that. I've got a lot of material for several more blogs, I've just got to get it organized for another day.
Susan
