I guess its official, I saw an article in the Standard Examiner stating that the Brigham City Library will receive seismic upgrades on its "older portion". It says that work will begin the first of the year - well, that's next month but I don't think its coming that soon. The article goes on to say: "The city contracted with Cooper, Roberts and Simonsen Associates, Inc. for $81,250. The City has received $650,000 mitigated from Rob Bishop's office requiring a 25 percent match that will come from from the library account. Total cost of the project is estimated at $812,500.
Since the building is historic, things upstairs will have to remain pretty much as they were originally, including shelving. I hope the upgrade includes fixing the "historic" shelving as it is getting pretty ragged and beat up. We may even have to get rid of the newer shelving units to find something that matches the old ones better. The older units don't have shelves that can be moved, they are pretty much nailed in place so this is going to be interesting. They may even take off the vines I had painted on the pole because they are not "historic" and I heard mention of "historic lighting". I hope everything is beautiful when they are finished but at the moment, I don't know if I'm going to like this upgrade or not.....
