Whose your next American Idol?

Whew! We had registration for our Spring session of Story Time on Tuesday, February 10th. We had 48 spots in our 4 classes, they were all taken in 17 minutes! We weren't sure if that was some kind of record, but it sure seemed fast. The first mom in line said that she stood in the cold for almost an hour, waiting for us to open. I can't help think, What is wrong with these people? I love story time too, but waiting for an hour in tempatures below freezing seems kinda crazy. What's next? People setting up tents to camp over-night to get a spot in line? I told this story to my husband and he said, "You are like a rock star! People are willing to wait in line just to see you!" Very funny I told him. I think that maybe it's just because we live in a small town and the choices are so limited for entertaining your kids. It is nice to be popular, but also frustrating. A mom drove from Tremonton to register and arrived here at 10:18 but the spots were all gone. I feel very bad when that kind of thing happens. I know her little boy and know he enjoys coming so much that he looks forward to it all week.

I wish that we had more room, more time to do programs and that everyone who wants to participate could. The truth is that I share the limited space we have with a lot of other programs/meetings. I only work part-time and that limits the amount of programming I can do. Programs are only considered about 40% of my job, so I must spend time on collection development, customer services and cataloging also.

The solution? We do have a free drop in Reading Time program. Each Wednesday and Thursday at 12:30 I read stories for about 30 minutes to whomever is here. Sometimes we have 10, sometimes 30. All ages of kids and their parents are welcome. We don't do crafts or treats at the drop in programs (too hard to plan) but we do have lots of fun. If you find yourself without a spot in our other Story Time program consider joining us for the drop in programs.
