Cleaning disk tips

Ever get a DVD in the player and can't get beyond a point because there is a something on the DVD? a scratch, dirt, who knows what - or you are listening to a book-on-cd and it starts to hit the same spot over and over or won't advance. Well, the "Ladies Home Journal" had a suggestion for fixing some of those problems in their September issue. They suggest examining the disk's surface for the flaw, then rub the surface in a circular motion using a microfiber cloth soaked in furniture spray (like Pledge), hard liquor (vodka) or toothpaste containing baking soda.

It this doesn't work, hold the scratched area up to a lit 60-watt incandescent lightbulb for about 20 seconds to soften the surface, and then play it again while the disk is still hot.
