The Literacy Program for Box Elder County has been on-going for over 25 years. It is one of those wonderful entities that helps so many and is gratifying to the volunteer---a real catch-22 in a very positive way.
The board of directors for the program are people who are willing to donate a little time to keep a big program running smoothly. In the past there have been representatives from the senior citizens to the young student; big business employees to homemakers and self-employed; educators to those seeking a better education, and all have done a tremendous service to people from one end of this very large county, to the other.
We have a couple of new board members this year and look forward to their input. Brian Grigsby is one of those who hails from the north end but had no problems with traveling with a group of Scouts to the south end to help with the unpacking and organizing of the office after the renovations and with the Reading Camp. He seemed a perfect fit for the board and was willing to dive right in. Rocio Olivera is a former English as a second language student from Tremonton who, with her husband, built their own home in Corinne, and is now an invaluable help with translating and great ideas for the program. She too was eager to join our board and we are so glad to have her!
The board meets the second Thursday of each month, except for July and December (we followed the library board's lead) at 6:30pm. We will have our next meeting on Thursday Sept. 9 downstairs in the office of the Literacy Program in the Brigham Library. We would like to invite anyone who is interested to come and join us! We would love to have you! If you have any questions, please feel free to call me---I would love to hear from you! 723-5850 is the library number~
