Storytime Review

Are you ready for Fall?
Our Leaves are Falling story time was a fun time had by all. We read When the Leaf Blew In by Steve Metzger, The Leaves Fall All Around by Rookie Preschool, Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert, I am a Leaf  by Jean Marzollo, Leaves by David Stein and There was an Old Lady who Swallowed some Leaves by Lucille Colandro. We looked at a box full of items that you might find in a tree, like apples, birds, sticks and even a book (since paper is made from wood!). The kids loved thinking of things you might find in a tree. We danced with colored leaves, swirling them over head and making the wind "blow" with our lips. Using our colored leaves we practiced pattern recognition. Red, green, red, green, then asked, "What comes next?"

For our craft we used an outline of a tree and made a torn paper collage with fall colors. This is a great pre-writing skill practice that involves using the small muscles in the hands to tear paper and pick up very small pieces. They turned out beautifully, even though one girl was decidedly disappointed that there was no purple paper to make purple leaves.

Next week: Pumpkins
