Pumpkin Heads at the Library!

For our craft this week we made a fun jack-o-lantern wreath with a paper plate and some black and orange die cut pumpkins. We added some green yarn at the top for a "vine" to hang the wreath up. Some children enjoyed making a pattern with the alternating colors of pumpkins, but most just enjoyed sticking them on the paper plate in a fun random way.
We sang "Have You Ever Seen a Pumpkin" to the tune of "Have You Ever Seen a Lassie":
Have you ever seen a pumpkin, a pumpkin, a pumpkin.
Have you ever seen a pumpkin that grows from a vine?
An orange one, a black one, purple one, a green one?
Have you ever seen a pumpkin that grows from a vine?
This song went along well with our story about Pinkalicious, who wanted to find a pink pumpkin! As we sung the color names I held up a stick puppet of each colored pumpkin. We sang the song several times and changed the colors we sang and the order we sang them in. We also used stick puppets for the poem "Jack-o-Happy".
Next week: Ghosts!
