Storytime Review

Boo! It's Story Time
This week our toddlers and preschoolers heard ghost stories for our Story Time classes. It's hard to do this type of story with very young children because they can scare easily. We chose the following books to read: Ghosts in the House by Kazuno Kohara, No Ghost Under my Bed by Guido Van Genechten, Boo! A Ghost Story that could be true by Tony Johnston and Old Devil Wind by Bill Martin Jr. Most of these stories have a fun element and keep the scariness to a minimum. The children especially liked moaning like a ghost during Old Devil Wind.

We made "ghosts" from a simple white kleenex and used them to do several activities, including a poem called Little Ghost by Jean Warren.
Little ghost, little ghost,
Dressed in White,
See how you (dance/skip/jump/run/etc.)
on Halloween night!

For our craft this week we made a paper plate and crepe paper streamer ghost. They are fun to use as a kite and see the streamers billow out behind you as you run. We also played  a "Hide the Ghost" game, where one of the children hid a paper cutout of a ghost and another found it using clues that the class provided by moaning like a ghost, louder if they were close, softer if they moved farther away.

Next week: Witches
