Story time Review

Watch Out for Spring Weather!

Our new session of Toddler & Preschool Story Time began this week. Our first class we discussed the different types of Spring weather, Windy, Rainy, Snowy and Sunny. We read It Looked like Spilt Milk by Charles Shaw, How the Ladies Stopped the Wind by Bruce McMillian, What's the Weather from the Rookie Reader set, The Wind Blew by Pat Hutchins and Mouse's First Spring by Lauren Thompson. Our Preschool classes discussed what things might get wet when it rains. As the children mentioned specific things I would draw them on the white board to create a rainy day picture. Some items I expected were mentioned like dirt, rocks, grass and flowers. Others were something of a surprise, but accurate nonetheless, like zebras, driveways and fur. I am not an artistic type so the zebra was a stretch, it's a good thing that 4 & 5 year olds don't really care if you can draw.

We used 2 songs from Carole Peterson's Dancing Feet CD, Singing in the Rain where the actions just get sillier and sillier and Sally Go 'round the Sunshine. To round out our day we made Japanese-style Spring Festival Fish kites with a paper lunch sack, some crepe paper streamers and a fish decorated with 1/2 circles of construction paper to make the scales.

Next week: Easter & Bunnies
