Story Time Registration

Fall Story Time registration will be on September 18th, beginning at 10:30 a.m. here at the library. These popular classes fill up quickly so plan to come early to save your spot in line. We will have an activity for children to do while you are waiting. Classes run in 6 week sessions and are a suggested donation of $1.00 for the entire session.

Classes are on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. We will have the Jr. Story Time for children ages 2-3 years begin at 10:00 a.m. and our Preschool Story Time for children age 3-5 at 11:30 a.m. Both classes will include stories, group games, activities, finger plays, songs and a craft. The Jr. classes will also include some interactive lap bounces and tickle rhymes. Not sure which class is right for your child? A description of our classes is below:

Jr. Story Time:
This class is for children ages 2-3 who are not yet ready to attend class independently. A parent or care giver will attend class with their child and help them participate. We will have fun interactive activities that include the parent and child together. Since children this age my be new to the class room experience, parents may need to take their child out during part of the lesson and let them get the wiggles out if necessary. This is perfectly okay with the instructor. Just bring them back in a few minutes later and join us again. Stories and books for this class are very short and the class is full of activity to keep the attention of these young children. Parents will need to help children in a group game setting and help them follow the instructions. Parents will also need to help children complete their simple craft. Cutting and gluing may be new experiences for children this age. Parents are encouraged to use the finger plays and bouncing rhymes  from class, at home to help their child become familiar with them. Length of the class will be approximately 45 minutes.

Preschool Story Time:
This class is for children age 3-5 who are comfortable attending class without a parent or other adult. Parents may attend but will be asked to observe the class from the back of the room to help their child feel more independent. If parents do not wish to observe class they may visit other parts of the library while their child attends. Parents are asked to remain in the library building in case of emergency.  This class will include longer and more complex stories, games and activities. Parents are invited to help their children complete the craft at the end of class, if desired.  Length of the class will be approximately 55 minutes

Free Drop-in Reading Time:
Not sure if you want to commit to registering for a class? Try our Free drop-in Reading Time program. Every Thursday, beginning September 20th, we will read stories and have songs and finger plays at 10:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Children of all ages are welcome to attend, a parent or other adult should plan to attend with any child who is under the age of six. Length of these free programs is approximately 30 minutes.

I hope these descriptions help you decide which class is right for you and your children. If you have more questions just call the library, 435-723-5850. See you at registration!
