Library Circulation Upgrade

This Friday, the 25th of April, you may find that you can't get on to your account from home for a few hours. We're having yet another upgrade. The circulation software that our library uses usually has updates once or twice a year. This is our second update so far this year, and it should be a nice one. Once we get the new features up and running we'll let you know some of the new features available to you, so be sure to check the blog over the next few weeks. And as for Friday, don't worry, if all goes as planed, our circulation system should be up and running normally by the time we open our doors at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. If you need any library books or other library items, be sure to come in earlier in the week as this Friday is our monthly closure for building and computer maintenance as well.

New Features for Your Next Library Search!

A few of you may have noticed that early this morning our online catalog was down. We apologize for any inconvience this may have caused. We came in early and did a small update to our circulation system today. The update only took about an hour, which is quite amazing. Usually we are told it will take an hour and, in actuality, it takes two to three hours to complete. We were thrilled at the speedy completion of this update.

So what does this mean to you? Well, keep an eye out for a few new features when you are searching the catalog. You may find a few things that will be useful to you such as limiting your advanced or 'Power' searches by the circulation type. That means, if you only want DVD results you can get just DVD results. After you do your first search on this new version you may notice a little link that appears in the corner of search screen it says 'My Searches' and there's a little magnifying glass next to it. This way you can go back to one of your previous searches without having to remember how you got those results.

You may have noticed OneSearch before, it's not new, but have you used it? With OneSearch you can search our catalog and the internet at the same time!

They didn't included every new feature we'd like to see, but there were some nice things in this update. We'll keep hoping for some of the features we've requested in future updates and enjoy the ones that have already been added.

So next time you're looking for a book keep your eyes open for new ways to improve your search. And if you don't already have a password for you account, come in and get one so you can renew online, place holds online and check the status of your account online!
