J.R.R. Tolkien began writing "The Children of Hurin" 99 years ago. He would set it aside and take it up again many times throughout his life. After Tolkien's death, his son, Christopher, has labored 30 years to produce a coherent, vivid and readable narrative. The tale begins with Morgoth destroying a vast army of elves and men and taking one of its leaders, Hurin, as prisoner. The dark lord tries to bend Hurin to his will, but the great man defies him causing Morgoth to put a curse on Hurin's family.
The story lasts 259 pages with illustrations by Alan Lee, art director for "The Lord of the Rings". An introduction and appendix by Christopher Tolkien explains how he went about compiling and editing his father's work. In the end he says he added no new material and that the words are virtually all his father's.

Tolkien fans will be excited to know that we already have this at the library to checkout.
