David Halberstam


David, Halberstam, a Pulitzer-Prize winning author, was killed in a car crash on Monday. He was 73. He won the Pulitzer-Prize in 1964, at the age of 30, for reporting on the Vietnam War for the New York Times. He was a faithful chronicler of the profound changes in America in the second half of the 20th Century and the challenges of the 21st Century. His books are about society, history and culture. Five of his fifteen of his books have been about sports. He had just finished a book about the Korean War called "The Coldest Winter" due out later in 2007.
The Library currently carries 11 of his books including 1 book on cd (Firehouse) and one e-book (The Education of a Coach). Other titles include: "One very hot day", "The Best and the Brightest", "The Fifties", "Summer of '49", "Playing for Keeps", "War in a time of Peace", "The Powers that be", "Teammates", and October 1964".
