This isn't library related, but it has to do with reading - reading the Standard Examiner newspaper. I read it every morning before I come to work. There hasn't been too much in the news that's given me something to talk about but yesterday morning's headline "Weird Wolf shot in Box Elder County", made me think. Box Elder County is getting some type of reputation, we've headline news about fish that walk out of ponds and have huge teeth and now the weird wolf that has features that "cause confusion". Besides a pond full of dead fish, are animals mutating in our county? Will people be afraid to visit or live here because we're in the news so much for our unique wildlife?
Another article that interested me was the headline "FLDS women fashioning a new look: Some wonder whether recent media exposure could impact fashion trends". It doesn't seem a new look to me - well, maybe, they say a mix of the 19th century and the 1950's. And back in the health section of the paper there is an interesting article on the tv show "The Biggest Loser". They're saying that those people are losing weight too fast. Ten to fifteen pounds a week has you losing "part of your body you don't want to lose". Whew, that would be bad! The paper's health authority says you should only lose a pound to 2 pounds a week.
I got a smile today from the paper, and that's a good thing.
