Still Life by Louise Penny has me addicted. I couldn’t wait to listen to another book on cd by Ms. Penny so now I'm listening to A Fatal Grace. I loved her characters! They seem straight out of an Agatha Christie book. Inspector Gamache could be any one of a number of charming detectives I've come to love on PBS such as Inspector Barnaby from the Midsomer Murders or Inspector Jack Frost from A Touch of Frost. The setting is Three Pines, Quebec, a nicer, softer Quebec than Kathy Reichs writes about with her character Temperance Brennan. Still Life is a gentle mystery delving into the lives of many of the residents of the small town until we’re left with only a small group of suspects. Up until the last chapters, I changed my mind many times as to who the murderer was. I was rather surprised at "who-done-it". Some books I like listening to better than reading, like the At Home in Mitford series or the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, but I think either mode would work well for this series. The narrator of the book on cd was excellent.
