John Updike

John Updike has died of lung cancer at the age of 76. It seems just one author after another these days. Seventy-six doesn't seem very old when many others are making it into their 80's and some to their 90's. He published more than 50 books including novels, countless short stories and collections of poetry. Two of Updike's most memorable fictional characters were Harry "Rabbit" Angstrom and Henry Bech. He was only in his 20's when his second book "Rabbit Run", brought him national attention. He won the Pulitzer price for "Rabbit at Rest" and "Rabbit Remembered". Updike was considered one of the most prominent contemporary American novelists. His twenty-third novel, "The Widows of Eastwick", was published in 2008. We have twenty-two titles by Updike in our library.
