Writing in the New Year

It's time to buckle down and start on those New Year's resolutions again. Okay, so sometimes it's a little tiresome to always think that everyone's choosing the start of the year to make a bunch of goals that they'll never keep, but - hey - try to think positively. After all, maybe some people will stick to their goals. They'll never know if they don't keep trying year after year.

Setting goals is a great thing to do. It give us something to work towards, but what keeps us moving towards those goals? Some people are self-motivated enough to do it themselves without any one even knowing that they're working on something special. But what about the rest of us who would do a bit better if we surround ourselves with people who know what we want and will know if we're not making progress towards our goal?

Cheer up, there's help at the library. That is, if your goal involves writing, there's help for you at the library.

On the first and third Tuesday nights of each month a group of dedicated local writers gets together and works on their writing. Every writer comes from a different background, is working on a different sort of project, has a different experience level, and brings a different perspective.

But these differences help make the group stronger. For starters we get a variety of viewpoints whenever we need to bounce an idea off the other members and we can learn from the more experienced writers and from the fresh new voices.

Each member helps encourage the other writers and we each have opportunity to offer valuable feedback to writers in the group and to get feedback from them on our writing as well.

So if one of your resolutions includes trying to write that novel that's been bouncing around in you head for years, or getting your personal history written, or any other writing project for that matter - COME WRITE WITH US!

We'll be meeting on Tuesday, 5 January 2010 for our first meeting this year. For more information about the library's writing group please call Elizabeth, 435-723-5850.
