Story Time Review

Things are Poppin' in Story Time!

Week 3 of our Story time Session and we had balloons as the theme. Everybody loves balloons! We started class with a fun game of balloon volleyball. I blew up enough balloons for everyone and tied up a string for the "net" between two posts that we have in our Story Time room. The kids hit or threw the balloon over the string to their partners on the other side.

We read The Blue Balloon by Mick Inkpen, See Pip Point by David Milgrim, and A Bunch of Balloons by Anne Cassidy with our Jr. Story time classes. Then we added Molly Who Flew Away by Valeri Gorbachev and A Balloon for Isabel by Deborah Underwood for our Preschool classes.

We used the song Round and Round by Georgian Stewart's CD Musical Scarves and substituted balloons to follow the directions as danced along. For our older kids we tried out some balloon relay races. We blew balloons with a straw and balanced them on top of our heads. To make balancing easier I created "hats" for each child. Each "hat" was made from an inexpensive plastic headband. I attached a strip of Velcro to the top and put a strip of Velcro on the bottom of a paper plate. When stuck together they created a platform large enough to put a balloon on. It's tricky to balance a balloon and you can't feel weather or not it has fallen off.

For our craft, I copied a picture of a clown holding a bunch of balloons. We used paper tubes to dip into paint and then pressed it onto the paper to make round balloon shapes. We painted the rest of the clown with Q-tips.
