Story Time Registration

Story Time registration will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 4th.  Our classes will be held on Tuesday or Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. for our Jr. classes, suggested age 2-3 years. And Tuesday or Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. for our Preschool classes, suggested age 3-5.  Register at Eventbrite.com, you can follow a link from our webpage www.bcpl.lib.ut.us. Limited space is
available, so plan to reserve your spot early. Classes have a suggested donation of $1 for the session, to help cover the cost of supplies. You do not need a library card to attend. Story time classes include stories, games, activities, rhymes and a craft. These classes last approximately 50 minutes.

For those wanting a drop-in option; we will resume our Free Reading Time programs on Thursday, January 7th at 10:00 a.m. This program is for all age children. Those children under age 6 must be accompanied by an adult. Reading Time will include stories, songs, and rhymes and last about 30 minutes. This program will continue throughout the school year.

Preschool Story Time Registration

The Registration for the fall session of our popular Preschool Story Time classes will begin at the Brigham City Library, at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 3^rd.  Choose from classes on either Tuesdays at 11:30 a.m. or Wednesdays at 11:30 a.m.  This program is designed for children ages 3-5 years old. This session will run for six weeks, classes will begin on Tuesday September 17^th and Wednesday, September 18^th. Cost for the program is $1.00 for the entire session, due at the time of registration. Class sizes will be limited so plan to register early. Classes will feature stories, finger plays, group games, songs and a craft. Parents are not required to attend classes, but are asked to remain in the library building while their child is in

attendance. Parents are always welcome to stay and observe the class if they wish.

Jr. Story Time Registration

Story Time Review

Mooooooooo that's who!

We have come to the end of the year for our Story Time classes. I will spend the month of May prepping for our upcoming summer activities themed Dig into Reading! @ your library! For our final week we talked and read about cows. I read How to Speak Moo by Deborah Fajerman, The Cow that Clucked by Denise Fleming, The Cow that Laid an Egg by Andy Cutbill and Stop that Cow! by Mairi Mackinson, Is Everyone Ready for Fun? by Jan Thomas, and Meow said the Cow by Emma Dodd.

We used some photos of items that are made from milk to discuss how useful cows are. We sang two fun songs this week one is Hand on my Head from the Wee Sing Silly Songs CD and the other is Pig on Her Head from the CD Best of the Laurie Berkner Band. I used puppets for this one and we sang about each child, so for example we same about Camden has a monkey on his head, Macey has a duck on her head and Rylee has an elephant on his head etc.

We played a game of "pin the spot on the cow" and then we made some cute cow masks with my die-cut mask as the base and added cow ears, horns and a nose. We drew on some cow spots also.

Our next session will be in June. Summer registration is June 4th at 10:30 a.m. Hope to see everyone there!

Summer Reading is Coming Soon!

Summer Reading will begin this year with a kickoff Read-a-Thon party on June 4th from 7-8 p.m. in the library basement. Bring your pillow and blanket to sit on, we will provide the popcorn and drinks. We will also have some fun trivia questions that might help you win a prize! You will get to sign up early for the Summer Reading program that night and pick up your reading booklets. Don't forget to bring $1.00 for each booklet you pick up.

Then you will just read and keep track of your minutes. Then at the end of summer you can turn in your booklet to get prizes and books. Included in your booklet are weekly drawing tickets. When you reach a reading goal just turn the tickets in at the library and you will have a chance to win some of our bigger prizes. Our Summer Reading program is for kids age 3 to 17!

If you are interested in registering for our popular Summer Story time classes you may sign up on June 5th beginning at 10:30 a.m. Classes available are Tuesdays or Wednesdays at 10:00 and 11:30 a.m. We have two separate classes that meet concurrently. One class is for children age 3-6 years old and the other is for children age 7-8 years old. Cost for the six week session is only $1.00! Classes fill up very quickly so plan to be early on registration day to save your spot in line.

For those who can't attend the Read-a-Thon you may sign up from June 5th thru July 7th. Sorry, you may not register early for Story time classes.

The theme for our summer activities this year is Dream Big: READ! we will explore things like The Stars & Moon, Nocturnal Animals, Bedtime, Being afraid of the Dark, Dreams & Wishes and lots of other fun topics.

Storytime Registration

We will have registration for our next session of Preschool Story Time and Toddler Story Time on January 10th at 10:30 a.m.

For those who have registered before you may notice that this is 30 minutes later than our usual time. On registration day last time Mayor Fife happened to drive by the library while all the mothers and their children were standing in line waiting for us to open. Concerned he called the library to find out why women and small children were standing out in the cold weather.

This has been a concern of mine for many years and I had tried to think of a way to fix the problem without coming up with a solution. The clerk working that morning said to me, "Why don't you just start later, that way they can line up inside to wait." I say that she is a genius and I owe her many thanks for thinking outside the box. Sometimes you can't see the forest for the trees when you have thought about a problem for so long, it takes someone with a new perspective to get the solution that has been staring you in the face. I do hope that this works and the line won't form so early before we open.


Free Reading Time session



Remember that classes fill up quickly so make sure you are here to get in line before 10:30! Classes available are Tuesdays or Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. for 2-3 year olds and Tuesdays or Wednesdays at 11:30 a.m. for 3-5 year olds. Classes will begin on January 17th and run for 6 weeks. Cost of registration is a $1.00 donation. If you don't get in we have drop in classes on Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m., Thursdays at 10:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. No need to register for the free drop in classes.

Free Reading Time

 Don't forget that we will hold registration for our popular children's classes beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 1st. We will have 2 classes for Toddlers and a parent held on Tuesdays or Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. Our Preschool classes will be held Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 11:30 a.m. All classes are just $1.00 for the entire 6 week session! Many parents have said that it is the best deal in town, what else can you get for a measly dollar these days. That dollar buys stories, poems, songs, fingerplays, games, crafts and much more at the library. Classes will run from November 8th through December 14th. Topics for our classes this session are: Scarecrows, Vegetables, Thanksgiving/Turkeys, Snowmen, Snowflakes/Winter and Christmas.

Don't want to deal with registration? You could join us at one of our popular drop-in classes. We hold them Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m., Thursdays at 10:00 a.m. and Thursday at 12:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to join us for 30 minutes of fun stories, songs and fingerplays. This ongoing series will be held throughout the school year, except for the week following Christmas on December 28th and 29th.

Did you know that you don't need a library card to take advantage of our storytime classes? So come in and join us. If you want to register for classes on November 1st, come early, classes fill up very quickly.

So, it's not usually cool to brag, but I am so proud of my hubby! He has been chosen to be a NASA Space Shuttle Launch Honoree. Which means that he is recieving the biggest honor given to individuals working for a space contractor. They are flying him and a guest (that's me) to Kennedy Space Center in Florida to watch a space shuttle launch. Sooo cool. We get a VIP tour and a bunch of other cool stuff , like meeting real life astronauts. It will be very neat and a once in a lifetime experience, especially since the space shuttle program is scheduled to end soon.

So what does this have to do with the Library? I have to justfy my bragging right? I will miss Storytime Registration which is on February 10th. The library staff is so great at everything that they do, I'm sure that they will not even miss me during registration anyway.

So mark your calendars for February 10th at 10:00 a.m. and come to the library to register your 3-5 year old child for our Story time program. Which will run from February 17th to March 18th, 5 weeks. The old schedule for children's programs was 6 weeks for Story time and 4 weeks for Library Learn & Discovery. We had lots of moms say on our last survey that 4 weeks is just too short. So to even things out we will do 5 weeks of each and see if that works better.

Class days and times are: Tuesdays at 10:00 and 11:30, Wednesdays at 10:00 and 11:30

Then on February 12th at 7:32 a.m. EST I will be watching the most awesome achievement of the men and women who work for NASA and it's contractors.

Mommy & Me Registration

Sign up for our Mommy & Me class on Feburary 20th. This class is for children age 2-3 years and a parent or other adult. This lap-sit program will feature stories about families, 4 weeks of books, songs, games, finger-plays, lap-bounces, crafts and treats.

Classes will be on Tuesdays or Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. Cost for the entire class is $1.00, due when you register. Classes fill up quickly, so register early! First day of class is February 26/27th.

A great time for small kids to experience the library in a safe and fun enviroment with Mom (or Dad or Grandma or the Babysitter!)

Summer Story Time
Registration is on June 5th. Cost of the six-week session is $1.00. Fun stories, activities, games, music and crafts for kids ages 3-9. Classes available will be Tuesdays or Wednesdays at 10:00 or 11:30. Classes fill quickly so register early. Tuesday classes will not be held on July 24th. Wednesday classes will not be held on July 4th.


Summer Read-at-Home Program
This program is for children ages 2-17. Children keep track of the number of minutes that they read and can earn prizes when they complete a page in their reading booklets. Cost for the program is $1.00. Registration for this program begins on Tuesday June 5th.

An Insiders Tip on Registration:
Those in the know will tell you that these are both very popular programs. On the morning of Tuesday June 5th we will expect a line of moms and kids waiting for registration to begin. So plan on coming early that day, before the library opens, to get a spot in line. The line up is for our limited number of Story Time spots. If your child is not registering for Story Time you can register for the Read-at-Home program later in the day, and not wait in a long line. This year there will be more spots available in Story Time because we will be having 2 sessions simutaneously, one for children age 3-5 and another for children 6-9. We hope that we can accomodate everyone who wants to participate!
