Wednesday nights are gardening night

Wow! how did Wednesday get here so fast? Time to write for the blog again and I'm clueless today. So I'm just going to remind everyone of the gardening classes the library is holding each Wednesday night through April 20th. Last week we had Barney Barnett from Willard Bay Gardens talk about grasses for the garden. He brought along a lot of his loyal followers and a pansy for each person in the glass. Tonight we had Glen Bradbury from Alpine Gardens talking about Landscape Design and this group got a full hour and a half of expertise on designing their gardens. Next week, Delia Barnett from Willard Bay Gardens will show everyone how to plant hanging baskets and how to garden with containers. You won't want to miss that one as they are giving a hanging basket as a door prize. April 20th, Barney will be back to talk about new and exciting perennials. The weather is going to warm up soon and you'll want some good information under your belt on how to get started planting your garden.

Planning a garden

I saw an article for a neat gardening site this morning in the Ogden paper. This is the Gardener's Supply website at http://www.gardeners.com/ Move down from the center of the page a bit and you'll find a block that asks "Growing Vegetables?" Click on this and it will take you to different plans for planting a garden with ideas for seeds or plants, when to plant, how much room the plant will need, how to care for and when to harvest. There are lots of other gardening aids on this site too. I know we're all starting to think about our gardens even if they are covered in 8" of snow!

Gardening Series at the Library

Spring seems to have come to Brigham City. The snow is melting. Bulbs are starting to peak their heads out of the ground. It is time to start thinking about our gardens. The library will be hosting a three part gardening series starting on Thursday, April 12, at 7 p.m.

April 12th, 7 p.m., Barney Barnett, Willard Bay Gardens, will be teaching a power point presentation on Perennials: Color for All Seasons.

April 19th, 7 p.m., Nedra Secrist, Secrist Gardens, will be teaching a class on perennials for your garden.

April 26th, 7 p.m., Glen from Alpine Gardens will be teaching a class on tolerant trees and scrubs. These are trees and scrubs that need little water to florish.

Bring your questions and your notebooks and learn how to garden Utah style. These classes are all on Thursday and are free and open to the public.
