Storytime Review

Spring has Sprung @ the Library

This week for our Preschool and Toddler classes we celebrated the beginning of spring by reading And the Spring Grass Grew all Around! by Harriet Ziefert, Wake Up, it's Spring! by Lisa Campbell Ernst, Flowers and Showers: A Spring Counting Book by Rebecca F. Davis, Mouse's First Spring by Lauren Thompson, Skunk's Spring Surprise by Leslea Newman, and Kevin Discover's Spring by Liesbet Slegers.

We had fun with a learning activity on the white board. I drew some dirt and then drew three seeds. I had the children guess what they thought would grow from each of the seeds. I drew a flower, roots and sprout then leaves and stem and bud. Finally the flower open for the children to see. The next seed became a carrot and the last seed grew a vine with a blossom on the end which turned into a watermelon. We added the sun warming the soil, some worms digging through the ground and some spring rain drops falling from a cloud, all things that our growing seeds might need.

After singing a rambunctious song set to the tune of She'll be 'Comin 'Round the Mountain, to which we flapped like birds, wiggled like worms, jumped like frogs and hopped like bunnies; we had fun creating a bouquet of flowers from die cuts and paper baking cups.

Next week: Being Happy
